Aina Khan, family solicitor and specialist in Islamic Family law attended the launch and reception to commemorate the Commonwealth’s Contribution to the 1st World War in 1914 – 1918 held on 8th November 2013.

The event, which was held by the Department for Communities and Local Government at the historic Royal United Services Institute , opposite 10 Downing Street, commemorated the “glorious history of international cooperation and partnership with the peoples of the Commonwealth”.

At the event, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi gave a speech honouring the Asian and African soldiers who fought with the British Army during the 1st World War.

Aina Khan was invited as a key member of the UK Muslim community.

Aina said of the event: “The Commonwealth soldiers’ sacrifice made an enormous difference to the outcome. 1000s came from India and what is now Pakistan and Bangladesh. Britain owes a great debt to these unsung heroes”.
