Aina Khan was present at the the Prime Minister David Cameron’s first Community Engagement Forum at 10 Downing Street on the 13th October 2015.

Aina was present at the Community Engagement Forum, which included the Prime Minister himself, Theresa May, Lord Ahmad as well as many more community influencers.

Aina said:

“The Prime Minister, Home Secretary and Lord Ahmad with their advisors listened intently to our ideas on how Government can truly unite communities in British society.”

Aina spoke of the concept she grew up with of ‘Deen and Dunya’ (Faith and Worldly life), which she believes both have equal and complementary importance and the key is in balancing both.

In Aina’s opinion this has disappeared leading to regression and Aina believes what has changed dramatically is that younger generations are “focusing completely on either faith or on the world but not balancing both”.

Aina gave the Prime Minister the example of increasing numbers of young Muslims choosing not to have what they see as a ‘British’ marriage ceremony. The key is to reach 15 to 17 year olds at school.
